Cemetery

The original cemetery, around Holy Trinity Church, High Street, Bottisham holds burials going back to 1569 and records, if not held by the Church directly can also be found in the Cambridge University Library and/or available in the Cambridgeshire Archives.

The village cemetery, behind Holy Trinity Churchyard, belongs to the Parish Council and is in two parts-the older part is separately fenced and gated. You can reach the cemetery by car down Downing Close, Bottisham. Bottisham Parish Council are responsible for the upkeep of this whole Cemetery area. The village cemetery is all lawn. The first burial at the Cemetery was in the 1700s. There is 1 Commonwealth burial of the 1914-1918 war and 5 burials of the 1939-1945 war within the Cemetery.

Those who can be buried including ashes to be buried in the Cemetery must be residents of Bottisham or able to meet other criteria which are set out in the Cemetery Regulations.

Bottisham Parish Council have an active program of maintenance for the Cemetery and regularly have the grass mown and have the trees and bushes cut back and kept under control.

The fees and payments are set out on this site below. The term inhabitant shall be interpreted to include a person who at the time of death or some time during the six months immediately prior to death normally resided in the Bottisham Parish or in special circumstances at the discretion of the Parish Council. This Victorian cemetery in the centre of the village is nearing capacity and after gaining views from Bottisham residents it was determined that a new cemetery was required.
