VE Day 80 Commemorations
VE DAY 80TH ANNIVERSARY COMMEMORATIONS ON SATURDAY 10TH MAY A “RESOUNDING SUCCESS.”
This was a wonderful celebration of community spirit and all ages came out and it seemed you thoroughly enjoyed yourselves ... and the weather was great too!
Events like this don’t just happen — they come together thanks to an incredible team of volunteers, friends, and families. While many of you know who you are, we’d like to give a special thank you to Sam, Grant, Sandy, Sarah, Simon and Linda, who all went above and beyond.
A huge thank you also goes to the dedicated volunteers who helped with the organisation, setup, and smooth running of the event on the day. Your time and energy made all the difference.
We’re especially grateful to the Co-op, with heartfelt thanks to Bill and Hannah, for their ongoing support and also Bottisham Bell Pub letting us use the "snug" too.
Thanks as well to Tonis Ices, who kept everyone smiling with delicious Cornish ice creams, and to Ocean Tree, whose squid and “really great fat chips” were a big hit.
A massive thank you goes to the Scouts, who served tea, coffee, and refreshments with energy and enthusiasm.
And a shout-out to all our brilliant resident bakers — you truly outdid yourselves. We had everything from chocolate fudge cake and carrot cake, to brownies, rhubarb crumble cakes from Lexi, and a lemon drizzle cake that was, without doubt, very well drizzled!
The Bottisham Airfield Museum wowed us all by arriving with not one but three wartime jeeps — an absolute treat, especially for the children and a perfect photo opportunity.
And, of course, a heartfelt thank you to our songstress Kirsty Beckett, who embodied the spirit of “Keep Calm and Carry On.” Her performances of We’ll Meet Again, Land of Hope and Glory, Run Rabbit Run, and Let’s Go Fly a Kite captured the nostalgia and spirit of the day perfectly.
To top it all off, we were treated to an unforgettable flyover from a wartime Spitfire, which circled us not once but twice — thank goodness the co-ordinates we provided worked! Thank you to everyone who came along, helped out, sang, clapped, baked, smiled and made it such a memorable day.
Bottisham at its very best.
